Mission
In support of the MPS vision, the mission of the Student Services Department is to promote the academic, social, emotional, and physical growth of students in a safe and healthy environment.
The Student Services Department is one of two departments included under Instructional Support Services. The Student Services Team is comprised of individuals in the following divisions: Behavioral Intervention, Guidance and Counseling, Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities, School Health Services, School Psychometry, and School Social Work.
Together, the Student Services team develops and monitors programs to promote healthy development and to support students who may have barriers to effective school performance. School-based staff members conduct psycho-educational and social history assessments, provide counseling, and are proactive in using preventive measures to assist teachers and parents in developing behavioral and academic interventions and strategies to meet the needs of students.
Other initiatives coordinated through the Student Services Department include MPS’s Safe Schools Task Force, Character Education program, Conflict Resolution program, and Peer Mediation program.
