Educational Technolgoy - Mission Statement
The Montgomery Public School System is convinced that the use of technology can help students think, learn, communicate and process information more effectively. Technology can advance the progress in the educational environment and improve student achievement. The Montgomery Public School System is committed to including this effective learning tool in every classroom.
Areas of Responsibility
Educational Technology is devoted to furthering education through means of technology. Our goal is to train teachers, students and others on how to use technology. Technology can be used in the office, classroom, and meetings. We provide training through means of computer labs, hands on training and distance learning labs. You can access a schedule of classes available at the PSC through the state departments professional development website, http://pdweb.alsde.edu/, or call our office for information about on-site training at your school.
We are also the primary drop-off site for donated computers. The school system is constantly in need of machines to replace irreparably broken or outdated machines. We are glad to accept new and used computers. These systems are then refurbished and used in the classrooms and computer labs.
Distance Learning
Beginning in the 2003-2004 School year we have started to offer Distance Learning classes in several area schools. These classes allow one teacher to offer a class not only to their local school, but to other schools that are equipped with a Distance Learning lab.
The labs are outfitted with televisions, cameras, projectors, and dvd/vhs equipment that are networked through our existing data network. This allows the teacher to see and hear students from several schools at once and the students can see and hear the teacher. Since all of the equipment is networked any video or other visual aide can be shown to all of the sites. We believe this will be an effective way of offering classes to schools that might not otherwise have the specialized personnel to teach a course.

Donated Computers
As a drop-off point for donated computers, we repair and refurbish new and used computers for use in the classroom. We gladly accept any make or model of machine or peripheral. Once they have been cleaned and repaired we load them with an OS and educational software and take them to the schools where they are needed most. If you have a machine and would like to bring it by just stop by at our building, 515 South Union Street, Montgomery, AL 36104. When you come in the front entrance, go to the first door on the left and you can speak with one of our secretaries who will have someone come and help bring in the equipment for you. If you are unable to bring the machines to our office, please call us at 334.269.3830 to see about scheduling a pickup of equipment from your home or business.
