Professional Learning/Development Department

The Professional Learning/Development Department is committed to providing opportunities for Montgomery Pubic School Employees in order improve student achievement. This department supports the work required to implement the Alabama Professional Standards for teachers and school leaders and other state and federal educator quality initiatives. The Alabama Professional Standards provide a clear vision of the knowledge, performance and dispositions that teachers and school leaders need to support student learning and achievement of the No Child Left Behind Initiative.

Goal

All educators in Montgomery Public Schools experiencing high quality professional learning as part of their workday-everyday.

MPS Professional Learning Design

Staff development efforts will focus on three interrelated and overlapping areas with increasing student achievement as a common goal.

• District level staff development: Implement and achieve identified district goals and initiatives, federal and state mandates and policies, state and district curriculum.
• School level staff development: Implement and achieve site based staff development action plans derived from school improvement plans and district goals.
• Individual level staff development: Implement individual plans for professional growth from areas identified in the Professional Education Personnel Evaluation (PEPE) process and as aligned with district or school goals.
