Montgomery Public Schools

The Magnet Schools Program of the Montgomery Public Schools (MPS) consists of nine schools with ten unique and diverse magnet programs.  These schools provide specialized learning curricula for the students admitted to the magnet programs.  Specialized areas of interest include the arts, advanced and accelerated academics, technology, math, science, and international studies. Montgomery County students may apply to the magnet program beginning in kindergarten.

Elementary applications and transcript request forms may be obtained from any elementary school, from the MPS Central Office, or may be downloaded from the MPS website . Secondary applications and transcript request forms may be obtained from the specific secondary school in which you want to apply, from the MPS Central Office, or may be downloaded from the MPS website (see link below). Transcript request forms are also available and must be submitted to the student’s current school.  Each magnet school has specific admission requirements and specific criteria to remain in the programs.  Information about these requirements is available at the individual school links.

Parents are encouraged to learn as much about the different magnet programs as possible prior to submitting an application.  Each school is diverse and has specific focus areas.  Information about the schools is available at the links provided, from the individual schools, and in the magnet program information sheets.  Individual magnet schools offer guided tours (by appointment) to help parents become aware of the programs available and to make a more informed choice.

All schools, including magnet schools, must comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.  A student may be both gifted and have a disability, including, but not limited to, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD or ADD), depression, a specific learning disability, diabetes, epilepsy, or a vision or hearing impairment.  If you think or suspect your child may have a disability, please notify the principal.  Your child may be eligible for a free evaluation and additional services and assistance from the school.  If you have questions or need assistance with this process you may call the Special Education Director at 269-3808, or the Section 504 coordinator at 223-68850.
