WHO WE ARE || Office of the Superintendent
John Dilworth

Mr. John Dilworth knows the importance of a good education. John’s father never learned to read and his mother had only a few years of formal education. He was the first in his family to earn a college degree. Helping young people understand that education can break the cycle of poverty has become a calling for him.
Mr. Dilworth worked as vice president for university affairs at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana for the past three years. He also served the Caddo Parish Public School District in Shreveport, Louisiana for 26 years in various positions, including chief operating officer, high school principal, assistant principal, teacher and coach. He holds two master’s degrees in education and a bachelor’s degree, all from Northwestern State University.
Prior to becoming an educator, he was a Miami Dolphins draftee and played with the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League.
On March 1, 2007 he began a new chapter in his already successful professional life as he became the leader of Alabama’s third largest school system.
“I am honored by this opportunity. I am very excited to be a part of this school district and I promise I will focus my energy and my experience on helping the district reach its goals. We are going to put an emphasis on providing the support local schools need to meet their charge of providing the best possible education in a safe and welcoming environment.”
